Mechanical/HVAC Engineer

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Mechanical Engineering program, have a minimum of 5 years of experience with a firm designing HVAC systems, have strong oral and written communication skills, understand computer programs such as Trane TRACE, Word, Excel and AutoCAD and have passed the Engineer in Training examination.

Provide MEP Design/Engineering for Commercial, Industrial, and Residential buildings.

Responsibilities and Duties:                                                      

  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of designing building HVAC systems. Experience with plumbing, fire protection, and electrical building systems a plus.

  • Calculate heating and cooling loads for building systems using computer programs, and energy modeling.

  • Survey the existing mechanical systems for buildings.

  • Design duct distribution and mechanical systems.

  • Select, specify and layout mechanical equipment such as pumps, chillers, fans and boilers.

  • Utilization of Energy Consumption and LEED experience.

  • Manage engineering role of projects from design development through construction.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines in the building design field and work in a team environment.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Architecture/Engineering Technology.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required, Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience preferred.

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP a plus but not required.

  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD.

  • Experience with Revit MEP.

  • Experience in the design, layout, and analysis for HVAC and Plumbing Systems for buildings.

  • Knowledge of NY, CT, NJ, and NYC - Energy, Fuel Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.

  • Ability to visit construction and project sites and comply with all safety codes and requirements.

Electrical Engineer

 

Southport Engineering Associates is currently seeking a motivated, talented junior Electrical Engineer with interest in and/or power systems experience relating to commercial, industrial, institutional and hospitality facilities.  Most projects are in the NY, CT, NJ and NYC Metro area.  New graduates with related internship experience will be considered.

 

IT, Electronics, Telecommunications experienced not needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering & electrical design of low voltage and medium voltage distribution systems, including standby and emergency power distribution

  • Electrical service and building infrastructure power distribution upgrades

  • Critical 24/7 Power Distribution Systems, UPS & Generator Distribution

  • Short Circuit & Coordination and Arc Flash studies

  • Electrical system evaluations and report writing

  • Fire Alarm system design

  • Electrical system commissioning

  • Energy Code & LEED experience

  • Attend meetings with architects, owners and building managers to discuss future and or current projects.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Understanding and knowledge of the engineering and architectural industry.

  • Related experience in the design of retail, hotel, and commercial building electrical systems

  • In depth knowledge of general building construction and Electrical codes

  • BSEE with Professional Engineering License (preferred)

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Hands-on approach to design and problem solving.

  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Highly proficient in the use of AutoCad

  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design

AutoCAD/Revit Drafter

The successful candidate will preferably have 2-3 years AutoCAD and Revit drafting experience. Candidates should have the ability to interpret prints created in an engineering environment and have experience with AutoCAD Release 2015. The position will require CAD drawings to be created for the various disciplines, (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection) and will require the ability to handle multiple complex assignments simultaneously.  Applicants must be independent, efficient, detail oriented and very organized; and be highly proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office. AutoDesk certification or certification from a CAD training program a plus.
